2019 වසරේ එල්ල වූ පාස්කු ඉරිදා මරාගෙන මැරෙන ත්‍රස්ත ප්‍රහාරය වළක්වා ගැනීමට පූර්ව බුද්ධි තොරතුරු ලැබී තිබියදීත්, සාපරාධී ලෙස රාජකාරිය පැහැර හැරීමේ චෝදනාවට වරදකරුවන් වී මරණ දඬුවම නියම වූ හිටපු පොලිස්පති පූජිත් ජයසුන්දර සහ හිටපු ආරක්ෂක ලේකම් හේමසිරි ප්‍රනාන්දු යන මේ වන විට වැලිකඩ බන්ධනාගාරය වෙත රැගෙන ගොස් තිබේ. කොළඹ ත්‍රිපුද්ගල මහාධිකරණ විනිසුරු මඩුල්ල විසින් අද (31) මෙම ඓතිහාසික තීන්දුව ප්‍රකාශයට පත් කිරීමෙන් අනතුරුව දැඩි ආරක්ෂක රැකවල් මධ්‍යයේ ඔවුන් බන්ධනාගාරය වෙත යොමු කෙරිණි. බන්ධනාගාරයට යොමු කිරීමට පෙර ඔවුන් දෙදෙනා වෛද්‍ය පරීක්ෂණ සදහා ලක් කිරීමට නියමිතය. වෛද්‍ය පරීක්ෂණවලින් අනතුරුව, මරණ දඬුවම නියම වූ සිරකරුවන් සඳහා නියමිත 'ජම්පර' ඇඳුම සහ සිරකරු අංක ලබා දී ඔවුන්ට වෙන් කළ විශේෂිත වාට්ටු වෙත යොමු කිරීමට බන්ධනාගාර බලධාරීන් කටයුතු කරනු ඇත. ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ පවතින නීතිමය ක්‍රියාපටිපාටියට අනුව, මරණ දඬුවම ක්‍රියාත්මක කිරීම සඳහා රාජ්‍ය නායකයා හෙවත් ජනාධිපතිවරයා විසින් අදාළ දිනය නියම කළ යුතුය. ඒ අනුව, ජනාධිපතිවරයා විසින් නියම කරනු ලබන දිනයකදී ප්‍රාණය නිරුද්ධ වන තෙක් එල්ලා තැබීම සඳහා ඔවුන් බන්ධනාගාරය තුළ රඳවා තැබෙනු ඇත. මෙම නඩු විභාගය විනිසුරු මඩුල්ලේ බහුතර එකඟතාවය මත තීරණය වූවකි. විනිසුරු ප්‍රියන්ත ලියනගේ සහ තිලකරත්න බණ්ඩාර යන මහත්වරුන් විත්තිකරුවන් වරදකරුවන් බවට තීන්දු කළ අතර, විනිසුරු විරාජ් වීරසූරිය මහතා විත්තිකරුවන් නිදොස් කොට නිදහස් කළ යුතු බවට සිය විරුද්ධත්වය ප්‍රකාශ කර තිබුණි. මීට පෙර 2022 වසරේදී මොවුන් දෙදෙනා නිදොස් කොට නිදහස් කිරීමට මහාධිකරණය ගත් තීරණය, නීතිපතිවරයාගේ අභියාචනයක් මත ශ්‍රේෂ්ඨාධිකරණය විසින් බලශුන්‍ය කර නඩුව නැවත විභාග කරන ලෙස නියෝග කර තිබුණි. Former Police Chief and Defense Secretary Sentenced to Death in Easter Attack Case The former Inspector General of Police, Pujith Jayasundara, and former Secretary of Defence, Hemasiri Fernando, have been remanded to the Welikada Prison following a landmark ruling today (31) by the Colombo High Court. This sentencing is in connection with their failure to prevent the deadly Easter Sunday attacks in 2019, despite having received prior intelligence information. Following the declaration of the verdict, both men were escorted to prison under heavy security. Before their transfer, they underwent medical examinations as part of the procedure. After the medical assessments, the prison officials will allocate them specific cells along with the prescribed 'jumper' clothing designated for death row inmates. Under Sri Lankan law, the implementation of a death sentence requires the President to set a date for execution. Therefore, they will remain in custody until a date is announced by the President, at which point their lives will be suspended. This verdict was reached by a majority decision among the presiding judges. Judges Priyantha Liyanage and Thilakarathne Bandara determined that the defendants were guilty, while Judge Viraj Weerawardena voiced his dissent, arguing for their acquittal.
