Participating as the world-ranked number one athlete, a Diamond League champion, and a national hero, Rumesha faced fierce competition throughout the event. In the opening round, he recorded a throw of 75.89 meters, placing him fifth. Determined to improve, he commanded a better performance in the second round with a throw of 85.69 meters, advancing to third place. By the third round, Rumesha surged to the lead with a throw of 87.11 meters. In a stunning final round display, he secured his victory by reaching the incredible distance of 91.09 meters, solidifying his gold medal win. For this historic achievement, Rumesha received a cash prize of $150,000 (approximately 50 million Sri Lankan Rupees). During the flight from Hungary, four of his specialized javelins were severely damaged. He has filed a complaint with the concerned airline regarding the incident.
