Parliamentarian Asitha Niroshan Affirms Commitment to Practical Buddhism and Marxism In a recent address, Asitha Niroshan, a member of the National People's Power, asserted that true practitioners of Buddhism incorporate its fundamental principles into their everyday lives while steadfastly rejecting any constraints of mainstream Marxist-Leninist ideology. Speaking to a gathering, Niroshan clarified that he is not among those who abandon the religion to claim Buddhism for the sake of external acceptance. "We are practical Buddhists. We embody the core principles of genuine Buddhist philosophy in our lives. We are not Buddhists who forsake our religion," he emphasized. "Moreover, if asked whether we are Marxists, the answer is yes; we do not shy away from declaring that we are Marxists. We are not just Marxists but Marxist-Leninists as well." He further elaborated that they draw inspiration from esteemed political thinkers of the 20th century, including revolutionary leaders such as Mao Zedong from China, Ho Chi Minh from Vietnam, and Fidel Castro from Cuba. Niroshan also highlighted the influential philosophies and life lessons from notable figures like Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the former President of India, and Sri Lankan intellectual Anand Kumaraswamy, incorporating these into their political endeavors and daily lives.
