ලෝක බැංකු සමූහයේ ජාත්‍යන්තර සංවර්ධන සමායතනය විසින් ඇමෙරිකානු ඩොලර් මිලියන 1,000ක මූල්‍ය ප්‍රතිපාදන 2026 - 2031 කාලසීමාව තුළ මේ රටට ලබා දීමට නියමිත අතර, ඉන් ඇමෙරිකානු ඩොලර් මිලියන 100 ක් උතුරු සහ නැගෙනහිර පළාත් ඒකාබද්ධ ප්‍රාදේශීය සංවර්ධන වැඩසටහන ක්‍රියාත්මක කිරීමට වෙන් කරනු ලැබ ඇත. 2026-02-09 දින පැවති අමාත්‍ය මණ්ඩල රැස්වීමේදී ලද අනුමැතිය අනුව එම වැඩසටහන ක්‍රියාත්මක කිරීම සඳහා අදාළ ණය පහසුකම ලබා ගැනීම පිණිස ශ්‍රී ලංකා රජය සහ ලෝක බැංකු සමුහය අතර පැවති ණය සම්මුති සාකච්ඡා අවසන් කර තිබේ. එම ඒකාබද්ධ ප්‍රාදේශීය සංවර්ධන වැඩසටහන මඟින් ආර්ථික විභවයන් සහිත කාණ්ඩ ශක්තිමත් කිරීම, ක්ෂුද්‍ර, කුඩා හා මධ්‍ය පරිමාණ ව්‍යවසායන් ප්‍රවර්ධනය කිරීම, ආර්ථික අවස්ථා වැඩි දියුණු කිරීම හා සම්බන්ධතා පුළුල් කිරීම මඟින් ජනතාවගේ ජීවනෝපායන් ඉහළ නැංවීම, තිරසර ප්‍රාදේශීය සංවර්ධනය හරහා උතුරු හා නැගෙනහිර පළාත් වල ප්‍රාදේශීය ආර්ථික වර්ධනය වේගවත් කිරීම සහ තරගකාරිත්වය ඉහළ නැංවීම ද අපේක්ෂා කෙරේ. ඒ අනුව, යෝජිත වැඩසටහන ක්‍රියාත්මක කිරීමට ඇමෙරිකානු ඩොලර් මිලියන 100 ක මූල්‍ය පහසුකම ලෝක බැංකු සමූහයේ ජාත්‍යන්තර සංවර්ධන සමායතනය වෙතින් ලබා ගැනීම සඳහා අවශ්‍ය මූල්‍ය ගිවිසුම්වලට එළඹීම පිණිස මුදල්, ක්‍රමසම්පාදන සහ ආර්ථික සංවර්ධන අමාත්‍ය වශයෙන් ගරු ජනාධිපතිතුමා ඉදිරිපත් කළ යෝජනාව අමාත්‍ය මණ්ඩලය විසින් අනුමත කරන ලදී. World Bank to Provide $1 Billion for Regional Development in Sri Lanka The International Development Association, part of the World Bank Group, has committed to providing $1 billion in funding to Sri Lanka from 2026 to 2031. Notably, $100 million of this amount is earmarked for the implementation of an integrated regional development program in the Northern and Eastern provinces. This funding was approved during a Cabinet meeting on February 9, 2026, where discussions culminated in agreements between the Sri Lankan government and the World Bank on the necessary loan facilities to effectively launch the program. The integrated regional development initiative aims to enhance livelihood opportunities for communities by bolstering economic diversification, supporting micro, small, and medium enterprises, improving economic prospects, and expanding connectivity. The project is expected to accelerate local economic growth and bolster competitiveness in the Northern and Eastern provinces through sustainable regional development. To facilitate the disbursement of the proposed $100 million, the Cabinet has authorized the Minister of Finance, Economic Stabilization, and National Policies to finalize the financial agreements with the International Development Association. *Note: In case of any discrepancy between the Sinhala and English versions, the Sinhala version shall prevail.
