The society has now shifted its governance to the National People's Power party. This recent election, which took place on August 8, was chaired by Mustapha at the main office of the Nawalpitiya Cooperative Society in Pallagama. The meeting aimed to select nine members for the board of directors, including a chairperson and a vice chair. Notably, the opposition was not represented at the electoral gathering, with all nine members who were chosen for the board having been elected. The newly appointed chairperson is Manju Sri Dharmakirti, who also serves as the Assistant Commissioner of the Nuwara Eliya District Revenue Office. He has previously worked as an auditor at the Central Province Cooperative Development Department. The selection of the chairperson and vice chairperson occurred amidst a lack of participation from opposing factions, marking a notable shift within the cooperative society's governance structure. The vice chairperson position has been filled by Gunadasa, who has held that role consistently in past elections.
