Concerning Court Appearance for Buddhist Leader Rescheduled In a notable development, the Buddhist leadership, specifically the General Secretary of the Bodhu Bala Sena organization, Venerable Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero, will not present himself before the court for a scheduled hearing today, October 23. This information has been formally communicated to the Most Venerable Ittapana Dhammalankara Nayake Thera, the chief prelate of the Kotte Sri Kalyani Samagri Dharma Maha Sangha Sabha, by the Ministry of Buddhasasana. The Ministry of Buddhasasana confirmed that summons for the monk's court appearance has been deemed unnecessary for tomorrow's proceedings and that the chief prelate has been notified accordingly by the Deputy Minister of Buddhasasana, Gamagedara Disanayake. This decision follows a past incident that caused a significant uproar within the Buddhist community after the monk was presented to the court inappropriately attired, sparking strong objections and unrest among the Sangha and Buddhist followers alike. In light of this situation, senior members of the clergy have urged the government to amend prison protocols and regulations to preserve the dignity of incarcerated monks. Before today’s developments, the Ministry had announced that Gnanasara Thero was expected to attend the court proceedings properly attired in full robes. However, clarification from government officials emphasizes that the ruling to not require his presence today stemmed from a lack of official directives from the court. *Note: In case of any discrepancy between the Sinhala and English versions, the Sinhala version shall prevail.
