Sri Lanka's Export Sector Achieves Robust Growth in 2026 Sri Lanka's export sector recorded a remarkable performance in 2026, maintaining a positive growth trajectory throughout the year. Between January and July, total export revenues surged past the significant milestone of USD 10 billion, reaching an estimated USD 10,487.80 million. This figure marks a notable increase of 5.5% compared to the same period in 2025. The primary driver of this growth came from the goods export sector, which generated an income of USD 8,188.32 million during the January to July period. This represents a 5.05% rise from the corresponding timeframe of the previous year, reflecting the sector’s resilience amidst shifting global market conditions. In addition to goods, the services export sector showcased consistent growth, achieving an estimated income of USD 2,299.48 million in the first seven months of 2026. This is a significant increase of 7.02% compared to the previous year, further solidifying the contribution of services to Sri Lanka's overall export earnings. According to preliminary data from the Sri Lankan Customs, the goods export revenue in July 2026 was estimated at USD 1,285.31 million, which shows a slight decline of 1.3% from July 2025. Meanwhile, the services sector continued its positive growth momentum, generating an estimated USD 351.92 million in July 2026, a robust rise of 3.75% from the previous year. Overall, Sri Lanka's total export income, including both goods and services, reached an estimated USD 1,637.26 million in July 2026, reflecting a growth of 2.63% compared to July 2025. Commenting on the export activities during July 2026, Mangala Wijesinghe, Chairman and CEO of the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB), highlighted the achievement of surpassing the USD 10 billion threshold in total export earnings as a significant victory for the nation. He emphasized that this milestone is a testament to the potential and capabilities of the export community in Sri Lanka, noting, "Despite uncertainties in the global trade environment, Sri Lankan exporters are consistently recognizing new opportunities and adapting to changing market conditions to compete successfully in international markets." Wijesinghe further pointed out that the current priority should be to enhance the competitiveness of existing export sectors while accelerating the development of new products, services, and markets to sustain this growth trajectory. He stressed the necessity for value addition, innovation, technology adoption, market diversification, and integration with global value chains to achieve sustainable export growth. “The EDB is committed to working closely with exporters, industry associations, and government stakeholders to support Sri Lanka’s aspiration to transform into a competitive and multifaceted export-oriented economy,” he added. *Note: In case of any discrepancy between the Sinhala and English versions, the Sinhala version shall prevail.
